Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Can KARACA was born in Istanbul in 1982. After completing his high school education in 2000 at Bahçelievler Super High School, he was accepted to Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in the same year. He successfully completed his medical education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine between 2000 and 2006. During his medical education, he won the 14 March Medical Tournament twice on the Cerrahpaşa Faculty basketball team. As of 2007, he started his General Surgery Specialization at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine ‘General Surgery Department’. He was interested in Laparoscopic surgery from the first years of his assistantship and later developed himself in this direction. In 2009, he took part in the Private Metabolic Surgery Clinic at Istanbul German Hospital and took part in the first Laparoscopic Metabolic Surgery (Surgical treatment of Type 2 Diabetes) surgery performed in Türkiye. In 2011, he received ‘Metabolic Surgery’ training at the Metabolic Surgery Unit of Taksim German Hospital, which is part of Universal Hospitals. In 2012, he successfully completed his General Surgery specialization at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty.
Between 2012 and 2014, he worked as a General Surgery Specialist at Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital. Between 2014 and 2017, he worked at the Metabolic Surgery Clinic in Şişli, Istanbul. During this period, his interest in laparoscopic surgery turned into experience. With his experience in thousands of cases, he took part in obesity surgery and surgical treatment of diabetes and thus gained great experience. In 2015, he started working as a lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University. He shared the experience and knowledge he gained with his young colleagues during this process. He taught at Bilgi University for 6 years and continued his academic studies. With his academic studies, he received the title of Assistant Professor in 2016 and the title of Associate Professor at the same university in 2021. Between 2017 and 2018, he worked as a General Surgery Specialist at Private Gebze Konak Hospital in Kocaeli. He successfully performed the first diabetes surgery in Kocaeli. He worked as a General Surgery Specialist at Medical Park Bahçelievler Hospital in Istanbul between 2018 and 2019. He founded the Obesity clinic in this hospital. He signed hundreds of successful cases. He worked as a General Surgery and Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Specialist at Istanbul Surgery Hospital between 2019 and 2020. He opened the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery clinic in 2020. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Can KARACA is an active member of the IFSO International Association of Obesity Surgery, TOSS (Turkish Association of Obesity Surgery), Turkish Surgical Association and BMCD ( Association of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery ).
Dr. KARACA, who has been involved in sports since childhood, has played licensed basketball and football as his biggest passions. Dr. KARACA, who recommends all his patients to include sports in their lives, continues this passion as a hobby and sets an example for his patients. He is also interested in chess and nature walks. Dr. Fatih Can Karaca, who speaks English well, is married and has two children.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. CAN KARACA participated in many congresses in the field of obesity surgery in Turkey and abroad and had the opportunity to present his experiences as a speaker in these congresses. Dr. Karaca has numerous scientific articles published in international A group journals in the field of obesity surgery.
